About

A scientist trapped in a creative's body

My technical journey began early with a passion for science in all forms. My eighth grade algebra teacher told me I would love physics because it was science plus math all rolled into one. He was right! I finished a B.A. in physics and a master’s degree in astrophysics and loved every minute of it.

But I quickly realized my true science superpower is getting other people excited about complex ideas and platforms, not pursuing it myself.

I had always loved writing. Poetry, short fiction, non-fiction. Luckily I got plenty of constructive criticism on my mediocre writing skills in humanities courses at Reed College (where I honed a range of writing styles tapping away on my treasured laptop while sipping coffee shop hot chocolate).

Hard science, easy reading

I’ve brought the wonder of black holes to K-12 kids in education and outreach resources at NASA’s Laboratory for High Energy Astrophysics and translated 30-page engineering patents into popular press releases at Draper (the engineering firm that designed the guidance, navigation and control of every crewed American spacecraft). I’ve expanded into the amazing world of computational biology as lead science writer on the Data Sciences Platform team at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard helping accelerate biomedical research as a documentarian for the cloud-native Terra platform.

Recent Impact

As lead science writer (User Education) at the Broad Institute of MIT/Harvard, I transformed how a small engineering team supported users.

  • Improved self-service success rate from 25% to 75% by redesigning and reorganizing the knowledge base around user needs implementing an AI-powered search that actually works.

  • Created streamlined onboarding resources to reduce manager time investment by 20%.

  • Developed engaging hands-on tutorials introducing full platform functionality to onboard XXk users
